Researchers in epidemiology, biostatistics and public health sciences study how the environment, lifestyle and genetic factors affect health and the aetiology of disease. This knowledge is used to create methods and approaches for the prevention of disease and ill health. The Karolinska Institutet Biostatistics Core Facility provides biostatistical collaboration and support to medical and public health research. It aims to ensure that experimental designs, data analyses, and interpretation and dissemination of research findings take advantage of the most efficient and innovative methods in biostatistics.

The department is also host to KI Biobank and the Swedish Twin Registry. Our research aims to increase knowledge about the causes of disease and encompasses clinical, molecular and genetic research as well as biostatistical methodology. The dean of KI South has appointed Carsten Daub, associate professor at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet, as acting director of the Centre for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (CBB).
